Consumer Welfare Month

October 1, 2011 to October 31, 2011

October is declared as Consumer Welfare Month to heighten public awareness on consumer rights and responsibilities. Republic Act 7397 otherwise known as the Consumer Act of the Philippines which took effect on July 15, 1992 declares the policy of the state to protect the interest of consumer, promote his/her general welfare and establish standards of conduct for business and industry.

Among the basic consumer rights are the right to basic needs where consumers are guaranteed of the availability of basic and prime commodities at affordable prices and of good quality and right to safety that assured consumers of their right to be protected against the marketing of goods or the provision of services that are hazardous to health and life.
