ILOILO CITY – Danilo V. Rogayan Jr., a senior student of Ramon Magsaysay Technologicval University – San Marcelino Campus in Zambales, garnered 1st Runner-up in the International Essay Writing Contest on the United Nations (UN) Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) held at Sarabia Manor Hotel here on August 6.
Said competition was one of the activities of the 12th International Youth Day, participated in by the universities and colleges across the Philippines and Asia-Pacific countries including Korea, Japan, China, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, among others.
Rogayan received a medal and a certificate of recognition given by the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP) during the Awarding ceremonies on August 7.
He received the award from UNAP President Judge Aurora N. Recina, UNYAP President Marlon Jhef P. Pineda and the guest of honor, Zambales Rep. Mitos Magsaysay.
Rogayan’s essay was entitled “MDGs: Vision, Volunteerism, Victory” wherein he elaborated the achievements of the eight MDGs in the country and how will it accelerate the realization of these goals by 2015.
The criteria for judging include content and relevance to the theme (40%); structure and cycle (35%); and originality (25%).
Engr. Jerry S. Cristobal served as the official coach of Rogayan.
Other competitions held were poster making, photography contest, extemporaneous speaking, oratorical competition and quiz bee.
It can be remembered that Rogayan, who is taking up a degree in Secondary Education majoring in Biological Science, has also been awarded as one of the 2011 UNAP Outstanding Youth Leader for Environment Category last August 3 here.
