Residents planted a total of 64,906 trees on a 31,000-hectare land in Siruma town on Wednesday, breaking an earlier record set by India.
Seyda Subasi-Gemici, an adjudicator for Guinness World Records, witnessed the feat.
The event started at 11 a.m. in the campaign led by Camarines Sur Governor LRay Villafuerte and Siruma Mayor Sandi Ondis.
The initial target was for people to plant 80,000 trees, organizers said.
Camarines Sur residents said the event is part of the province’s efforts to help fight global warming. — Report from Jonathan Magistrado, ABS-CBN News Bicol
